TEAM BUILDING GONE WRONG

Big Wheel Blog:

Yesterday at work the powers that be decided they had come up with a great new team building event. We are going to have a contest to rename our conference rooms after colleges. It is directly billed as a "team building" event that is going to help us remember and more easily locate our conference rooms. Now this might make sense if we were located in a small building, or there were only a few conference rooms, or they were all near each other, but we work in a large building with multiple floors and wings and conference rooms spread throughout. Instead of conference room 101 located in room 101, we'll now go to the Ohio State conference room. So, when someone asks you where your meeting is, you'll reply, "In the Ohio State conference room!." Naturally the next question is going to be, "Where's that." The reply? "In room 101." So, I'm sure you can see where it is now easier to locate the conference room, because you will get to remember both a name AND the room number where it is located. With that problem solved you go back to working diligently, because you know those getting paid more than you are taking care of the important problems. And that lack of funds they are always complaining about? I'm sure solving the naming problem was just step one of the master plan.
With the recent debacles of Netflix and the Komen foundation, it is becoming evident that common sense and grasping reality no longer have a place in corporate America. Don't worry, a good ol' fashioned trust fall will solve all the problems. Or maybe Friday will be Hawaiian shirt day!
